December PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Systems)

Village Elementary: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Ready to Learn

During the month of December, we will be focusing on the behavioral expectations surrounding what it means to Be Responsible.  Our School-Wide Behavioral Expectations matrix breaks down what responsibility looks like in the various locations of our building: the classroom, the hallway, the bathroom, the cafeteria, the playground, and the bus.  This month, we will be devoting our PBIS time to reviewing these expectations in an engaging way.

A clearly connected Approach to Learning (ATL) that we will tie into our December assembly and activities will be Self-Management.  We will encourage students to see that they have the ability to manage their own state of mind.  From mindfulness and perseverance, to managing their emotions and motivation and practicing resiliency, the aim of this ATL is to produce self-regulated learners.

We are taking a hybrid approach to our assembly this month.  We recognize the importance of coming together as a school community for assemblies, but we also recognize that this environment is not the most ideal for delivering information that we want our students to know and be able to do.  As a result, we will be merging the two types of assemblies into one.  Students will be receiving the instructional portion in their classroom prior to the assembly.  This will allow us to set the stage for our time together in the gym.  Once we are all together, we will be presented with skits put on by our older students that will help our behavior matrix expectations come to life!
