Village Elementary: Be Respectful, Be Responsible,
Be Ready to Learn
Every
spring, we have a week dedicated to appreciating our teachers and educators. No
one can deny this has been a tough year, and this year our teachers really
deserve it! Thanks to our Village
Elementary Parent Teacher Organization, all staff will be receiving a “It takes
a Village“ t-shirt as a reminder of how much our community cares about them and
appreciates the job they’re doing. In addition, our Student Council has brought
in Abbotts to provide our staff with a tasty treat, and Village Administration have
made a donation to the Hilton Cadet Cupboard in their honor.
May
PBIS Focus: Inquiry
Our school IB focus for the month of May
is Inquirers. Students who are inquirers actively enjoy learning and are
curious about the world. They ask questions and seek answers. Inquiry-based learning teaches students
to think more closely about the problem and then develop patterns to discover
how to solve it. Students are taught to identify the exact problem, its effects
and consequences, and why it matters. By allowing time for developing these
skills in class, students get better and are more effective in solving problems
on their own.
Throughout the month of May, our students
will be reviewing several videos and books focused on understanding how to be
an inquirer, and why it is important. Students have also been invited to engage
in our school flipgrid, in which they can share out with other students and
classes.
In Flipgrid, educators post discussion
prompts, and students respond with short videos that allow students to view from school or home. This provides the
opportunity for students to hear from other students throughout the building
and foster fun and supportive social learning.
Our
goal is that the love of discovering new things will continue to support their
continued education throughout their lives.
Try
to engage your kids at home about the lessons they have learned during the
month of May, as well as all learner profiles we have focused on this year.
