“ Teaching Kids to be the best they can be”

January PBIS Updates

Our PBIS theme at Village for January is Thinkers. In education, we know that developing critical thinking skills is paramount in helping students enhance creativity, foster independence, contribute to class and group discussions, as well as solve challenging problems. During the month of January, all classrooms will be reading the book “Going Places” by Peter and Paul Reynolds. The story is about an annual go kart building contest where each kid is provided an identical kit but is given the freedom to make it their own! In an effort to reinforce the critical thinking skills of our own Village students, we are providing each class with an identical scenario to solve:

“Due to our current situation, we are no longer allowed to manually turn off the light switch in your classroom. Using five items that already exist within your classroom (no more or less, must be exactly 5) create a way to turn the classroom light off without actually being able to touch it with your body.”

Classrooms will video their invention and once all entries are collected, the school will vote on Most Creative and Most Effective. We are looking forward to their imaginations taking flight!

In addition, PBIS will incorporate riddles over the announcements twice a week for the month. Riddles are a great way for students to use those critical thinking skills!
