June PBIS Newsletter

Dear Families,

It is extremely hard to believe we are at the last few weeks of the school year.  It has been a pleasure being a part of the Village family and I want to thank you for all the support you provide the school each day.  Without it, we wouldn’t be as successful as we are.

This month’s IB trait is Reflective.  We thoughtfully consider the world and our own ideas and experience. We work to understand our strengths and weaknesses in order to support our learning and personal development.  Although we promote reflection throughout the year, we feel it is especially important at the end of the school year.  This gives students the opportunity to think about what went well and what goals they can create for the upcoming year.

As part of the reflection process and to improve the social and emotional connections for students at school, the PBIS committee have taken on the task to apply for the Schools of Character recognition.  In schools of character, adults embrace their critical role as models. Teachers work together as professionals—and with parents and community members as partners—to positively shape the social, emotional, and character development of the young people entrusted to them each day. Students in these schools feel safe, respected, and connected to those around them, allowing them to thrive academically and socially and be motivated to give back to their communities. (See http://character.org/schools-of-character/ for information).  The deadline is December 2017, so we are ahead of the process in order to complete it in a timely manner.

The final bus of the month was awarded to bus #55 . This bus has shown the most improvement since the beginning of the year so it is well-deserved!  Village feels lucky to have such outstanding bus drivers who take student safety seriously and value communication with the school.

Last week, we were able to celebrate the volunteers.  We invited all volunteers to an afternoon tea, where the volunteers were treated to sweets, lovely music from some of our band students and were honored by myself and other staff.  We truly appreciate all the extra time people have taken to help in classrooms and around the school.

We hope the students had a blast walking with their classes during the school wide walk day that was held on May 30th.  Here are some candids of some of the classes.

Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered for Spirit Day!  Volunteers will receive the schedule and information about duties in the upcoming week.  The day will be filled with fun and bringing the school together.  Dr. Rudd and I will be sure to post pictures from the day.

Here’s to a wonderful end of the year!
