Welcome to the 2016-2017 School Year

Village Families,

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year!  Each month I will send out a monthly blog to update you on all the information on how the Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) Committee will be supporting the school.  Our daily mission is to keep all students learning in a safe and nurturing environment where students feel safe to take risks.  In order to accomplish this mission, the committee is devoted to implementing several strategies to promote positive behavior in all the students.

Similar to past school years, there will be monthly PBIS assemblies celebrating positive behavior and teaching mini-lessons on how to exemplify positive leadership each day.  The monthly focus will be on one of the International Baccalaureate profile characteristics.  The IB program aims to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world. Below is a list of the assembly dates with the IB focus:

1.       September 16th-Thinker
2.       October 21st-Principled
3.       November 18-Open-Minded
4.       December 9th-Caring
5.       January 6th-Knowledgeable
6.       February 3rd-Communicator
7.       March 3rd-Inquirer
8.       April 7th-Risk-Taker
9.       May 12th-Balanced
10.   June (Spirit Day is June 16th)-Reflector

The outcome of the assemblies is to build community, and we look forward to spending the time as a whole school.  FYI: the first assembly was a review of expectations/making right choices and a welcome back to school celebration.

This year, we will continue implementing the bus of the month celebrations.  Stephanie Schaufelberger will be checking in with bus drivers each day to keep a tally and the school will celebrate the bus who receives the most tallies each month.  The summer PBIS team decided that there will be more buy-in from bus drivers if we put the paperwork on administration instead of them.  We also have an incentive for bus drivers!  The bus driver whose bus wins will receive a gift certificate to a local restaurant!  We hope this will minimize bus incidents and keep all students safe each day.

If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie.

We look forward to another wonderful year at Village ES!
