This year our Village 6th graders
will be creating awareness and change through their “It Takes a Village”
Project. Last year, it was known as “The Power of One” project, and
arranged in a “Science Fair” type setting.
This year, it will be produced in groups, and have various kinds
of “Products.” For example, your 6th grader may be working with
their peers to teach younger students about health and wellness, creating
awareness around global warming, or even surveying and teaching parents about
internet safety.
This project will help them prepare for their final MYP
requirement in 10th grade. By then, students will be creating personal
projects where they will initiate change within their own community and within
the larger community. This project is even more important as it will
allow students to learn and practice all the skills necessary for work and
life: taking notes, working in groups, speaking publicly and even writing
research papers.
This will be quite a bit
of work, both in and out of school, so your support and dedication to our
students is greatly appreciated.
