To celebrate our strength as communicators, we saw this month as a perfect time to participate in our 3rd annual Day of Disconnect. On Monday, January 11th, we will have a school-wide turn off technology day - “Disconnect to Connect”. What does this look like? No computers, no smart boards, no iPads, no email, no electronics, for an entire school day. All students and staff are invited to participate. This day is an opportunity to pause and reflect on the importance of balance and the value of face-to-face connections!
This week we are encouraging classes to come up with one specific activity to emphasize the importance of face to face communication. Games, read-a-thons and physical activities are a few possibilities that have been done in the past. We want kids to see the importance of shutting down their tech lives on occasion and realizing the fun they can have without looking at a screen.
This idea of "disconnecting to connect" can be practiced at home as well. On Monday, January 11th, please consider encouraging your children to stay away from whatever technology may captivate them at home. Family game night, eating dinner together or simply sitting and chatting are some ways to connect with one another without the constant distraction that technology so often provides this generation of children. Please feel free to view the video below about this concept.
