For the month of February our IB Approaches to Learning focus continues to be COMMUNICATING.

In January, our school-wide turn off technology day was a huge success.  Students and staff were challenged to adapt to life at school without computers, smart boards, iPads, etc.  Encouraging face to face interaction seemed to be a big hit with all involved.

Throughout this month our school is encouraging students to THINK before communicating.  The acronym THINK stands for True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary and Kind.  Considering whether what we say  is true, helpful, inspiring, necessary and kind before we speak can help our students communicate in positive ways. In this world of ever evolving forms of communication, it is more important than ever to consider the five elements of this acronym before we communicate.

Before speaking (or posting on social media) consider:

T - Is what I'm saying true?

H - Is it helpful?

I - Will it be inspiring?

N - Is it necessary to share?

K - Is it kind?

The THINK acronym is discussed daily on the announcements.  Using this language at home can help reinforce positive communication strategies that we are discussing here at school.

Be well,
