Dear Village Families,
Last month I sent an email out to all of our families discussing our One School
One Book kickoff assembly and my hopes to help families become more involved
with their children and what happens at school. As a result, we completed
our very first broadcast via Periscope (@mrlumb). Over 40 families
responded to the first email and joined Periscope to watch the exciting kickoff
event for our book The One and Only Ivan. Tomorrow, we will be
conducting another school-wide assembly, and I wanted to make our families
aware of the times that these two events will take place. Tomorrow
morning at 8:30 am, we will gather all of our Kindergarten through 3rd
Grade students into the HJ Gym. The students in grades 4 through 6 will
gather in the afternoon at 2:20 pm. Both of these assemblies will be
broadcast live through the Periscope app. I am strongly encouraging all
of the families that have already joined me on Periscope to tune in live and
watch the exciting assembly that we have planned our students. If you are
unable to watch the broadcast live, don’t worry, the broadcast will be
available for 24 hours on Periscope. If you have yet to take advantage of
this wonderful opportunity, I would strongly encourage you to look into the
benefits of Periscope and how this live broadcast can help all of our families
see the wonderful learning opportunities that students are engaged in on a
daily basis.
The P.B.I.S. Team here meets on a regular basis to plan these assemblies so
that we can help to create a positive environment for all students. This
year, the team has been focusing on using the Approaches to Learning through
the International Baccalaureate Programme. Essentially, the approaches to
learning help to teach our students how to learn. It is often implied that
students come to school knowing how to learn. At Village Elementary we
understand that everyone is unique, and we need to take the time to teach our
students various ways to learn. By using the IB Programme as a lens, the
P.B.I.S. Team is focused on helping our students develop the skills that will
be necessary for them not only to feel successful at school but also outside of
the school walls. We know that we need to help prepare our students for
the exciting journey that lies ahead of them. By joining Periscope and
following me, you will get a great glimpse into the skills that we will be
teaching and working with your children on at school. By taking a vested
interest in your children’s education, you will be forming a great partnership
with the school and showing your children the importance of learning and
helping to re-enforce their learning at home.
On another note, our VEPTO fall fundraiser pick up will be on Thursday,
November 19 from 3:15 to 6:45. If you are looking for other ways to
become involved with our school, I would like to suggest you consider joining
our VEPTO. VEPTO meets every 2nd Tuesday at 3:15. This
is a great organization to become involved with as their focus is strictly on
the students and how they can support our school. All of their
fundraising efforts are utilized 100% for the students of Village
Elementary. If this might be something you are interested in, please let
me know and I will gladly assist you.
Sincerely,
