Be Kind
This
school year we have adopted the year-long theme Be Kind. This theme of
being kind – to others and oneself – ties nicely into our already established
school-wide behavior expectations, IB Learner Profile and Approaches to
Learning. Additionally, this theme provides an opportunity for students
at Village Elementary to come together as a learning community to focus on the
traits that will help them develop into students who are both kind to
themselves and others.
Our
focus trait for September is accepting others. Through a story and a
classroom activity, our goal is to help students see that by embracing the
uniqueness of each person, we become a stronger community. Our mantra for
this month, “We may all be different fish, but in this school we swim together.”
We
will be celebrating students who staff members see practicing the focus trait
each month by announcing their name over Friday morning announcements, giving
them a Cadet Crew “badge” and sending home a Caught ‘Ya postcard.
Their name will also be published in the display cases located in the
main entrance hallway.
On
Friday, September 14, we will be holding a school-wide assembly to kick-off the
2018-2019 school year. We are encouraging students to wear red and black
on that day to show their school spirit. We can’t wait to start working
on making 2018-2019 the best school year ever!
